Description: Since 1996, the Juvenile Court Book Club has provided a forum for juveniles in the court school system to share books and develop reading skills. Monthly at each site, 20-25 club members gather with adult volunteers to discuss a wide range of literature. The books serve as a springboard for discussions on personal issues important to participants.

Description: Reach Out and Read San Diego (RORSD) seeks to make early literacy a standard part of pediatric primary care. Doctors give new books to children at their well-child visit and discuss with parents the importance of reading aloud to their child. Reach Out and Read is a county-wide program that focuses on low-income and underserved communities. Trained volunteers also read stories to children while they wait for their appointments.
